Iqama, work permit and Baladiya card: the 90-60-30 renewal routine

4 min read · Updated

1. One list, three dates per person

For every non-Saudi employee record three expiry dates: iqama (residence permit), work permit (Qiwa), and for food, beauty and health jobs the Baladiya health card. Add the company's own documents too: commercial registration, municipal licence, GOSI and Saudization certificates, Qiwa establishment file. Keep the list in one place; the free tracker on this site does it without ID numbers.

2. At 90 days: check the money and the status

Three months out, confirm the three things that block a renewal later: GOSI contributions are paid up, the establishment is not in the red Nitaqat band, and there is no unpaid Qiwa or Absher fine. Decide now whether each contract will be renewed; a non-renewal needs notice in writing before expiry.

3. At 60 days: work permit on Qiwa

Renew the work permit on Qiwa and pay the fee (the levy for non-Saudi workers plus the permit fee). Keep the receipt in the employee's file. Without a valid work permit the iqama cannot be renewed.

4. At 30 days: iqama on Muqeem or Absher Business

Renew the iqama for the chosen period, then print or save the new card data and update the tracker. Medical insurance must be active for the renewal period; renew the policy first if it ends sooner.

5. Baladiya health card: book the medical early

The card needs a medical test at an approved centre and the course certificate; book the test at 45 days because slots fill up. Issue or renew through the Balady platform and keep a copy at the branch for inspectors.

6. Close the loop

A renewal is done when the new expiry date is in the tracker and the receipt is in the file, not when the payment went through. Review the 90-day queue every Sunday; it takes ten minutes.
